In September 2003 I read a book called The Disappearance of the Universe by
Gary R. Renard, or D.U.as it is simply known to its readers. For the previous three
years, I had also been studying a deeply spiritual work called
A Course in Miracles
(
ACIM), simply known to its students as The Course.
The Course or ACIM is a practical spiritual and psychological method for inner
transformation that, when put into practice in your life brings truly miraculous, and deeply
healing results both inwardly, and in your outward life and relationships.
While reading
D.U., I realized that my practice and discernment of ACIM were being
accelerated with newly gained understanding that the book had brought into my mind
after three years of trying to grasp
ACIM’s deeper teachings, often interwoven with
many every-day practical themes.
The title of this book honors the words originally spoken to the New York-based
psychologist who originally took down
ACIM in short-hand, Dr. Helen Schucman. She
scribed it from a sort of inner dictation that she identified as the voice of Jesus. Over a
period of seven years taking daily dictation, which was also transcribed to typewriter by
her colleague
Dr. Bill Thetford, the process resulted in what eventually became A
Course in Miracles.
Originally published by the Foundation for Inner Peace in 1975,
ACIM spans over 1,300 pages of Text, a Workbook for Students, and a Manual for
Teachers.
Many years after the publication of ACIM, 365 complete sentences from it were
repeated to
Gary R. Renard, as part of a personalized curriculum from two ascended
masters who introduced themselves as two of Jesus’ original disciples: Thomas and
Thaddeus.  The conversations Gary experienced with the ascended masters over a
period of nine years resulted in the writing and publication of
The Disappearance of the
Universe.
Gary explains in D.U. that over this period of time his teachers introduced him to ACIM
and slowly and experientially brought him to a deeper understanding of it.
Gary’s experience with
D.U. is unique and of course, kind of unbelievable. However, it
is trusted by thousands of his readers because of the clarity in its message which is
offered with good humor and exhibits a strong connection with
ACIM, all which
contributes to the advanced results that both, readers of his book and students of
ACIM,
soon experience.
Helen Schucman’s experience in scribing A Course in Miracles  is also very unique
and unbelievable. After all, she said she received inner dictation for a period of seven
years from the voice of
Jesus. Yet, once a student embarks on a path with this Course
and deepens the study and practice of what is written in the book, the book itself seems
to come to life and begin to work with the reader in no less than miraculous ways.
Through the integrated work with these books in my life, I experienced many miracles.
This is why, after reading
D.U., I set out to organize all the quoted material from ACIM.
It is done both for my benefit and that of readers who may be as curious as I am to see
them all assembled together.
We are told towards the end of the
D.U. book that this can be done in order to obtain a
very helpful ‘refresher course’ on
ACIM.
After a couple of years of research and all the help received in the process of doing this
work, I am delighted to offer the result. Many blessings have been received because of
this work and I know that those who read it will be blessed by it as well.
I am deeply grateful to
Gary R. Renard for writing his D.U. book and sharing the all-
inclusive and uncompromising message of God’s Love for His children in
A
Course in Miracles
through the lens of his experience during those nine years.
I also would like to express my deep appreciation and eternal gratitude to the
Foundation for A Course in Miracles and to Dr. Kenneth Wapnick for his tireless
work and selfless giving so that the words of
Jesus in ACIM reawaken our minds and
help us return home to God.
You need not be a Christian to benefit from
ACIM, D.U., or from this book.  This work
and the teachings reflected in all these books stand beyond religion and religious
denominations and traditions. In fact, it might be better that you approach all of this with
an open mind, thirsty only for truth, hungry only for the love of God or simply something
greater in your life, no  matter where you may be coming from.
Above all, this book is offered in deep gratitude to Jesus and His ever-present
and abundant love in my life.
